The Lab: Advanced Scene Study
The Lab: Advanced Scene Study is an ongoing weekly forum for the working professional actor. A combination of traditional scene work along with original work generated by Studio members, it’s an incubator for continuous professional and personal development - all leading the way to creative indelibility.
We honor and practice time-tested traditional scene work in class, while we also fully embrace the new paradigm of the actor as creator. Original projects born in The Studio have resulted in fully produced plays and original award-winning films. Participants: This is an acting class, but we also enthusiastically invite writers and directors to participate as another way to inform their core skills, and lend their talents to work done in class Commitment: You have our personal commitment to bring 100% of ourselves to class. The same is expected from our students. This is not a casual career – and to that end I expect you to be on time, prepared, and ready to bring your very best. |

The Lab: Advanced Scene Study emphasizes techniques featured in Michael’s book, “THE AUTHENTIC ACTOR, the Art and Business of Being Yourself”. It's a non-dogmatic approach stressing solid technique combined with emerging self knowledge - allowing the artist to illuminate the text and make it their own. Everyone’s “personal fingerprint” should be embedded in their work. We don’t focus on a singular method. While the work in both classes is often derived from theatre-based material, there is always an eye toward the creative pivot that exists between stage and screen.
