Putting the self in Self-tape

Putting the Self in Self Tape is a 6 week class.

Each week is laser-focused on creating auditions that are personal, memorable, and are true to the story, genre, and world of the project.

  • Week 1:  The co-star.  These are shorter auditions that can sometime be more difficult because there are far fewer opportunities in the script for you to make your mark.  Understanding the purpose of a smaller but important role in advancing the story is key to making a quick and indelible impression

  • Week 2: The guest-star.  These are meatier roles consisting of several scenes. These characters interface with the series regulars, and thus are generally more central to the story than co-star roles.  Discovering the "roadmap" for a series of scenes is one of the challenges, and making each scene different from the next is quite important.  That difference is found by defining the purpose of each scene to the overall story.

  • Week 3: A live zoom audition for the guest-star roles:   This is exactly that - a live callback with a reader, feedback, and perhaps even a few curveballs thrown your way.

  • Week 4:  Series regular roles:  These are the main characters around which the story is built.  Series regular roles are where your "personal fingerprint" must be crystal clear.  Your look, your chemistry with other key cast members, and the genre and world of the show are paramount.  At this level, talent is assumed.  It's more about fit.

  • Week 5:  YOU pick the audition you want to work on.

  • Week 6:  You write an original audition piece for one of your  classmates

In this class, we not only work in depth on the material itself, but we also spend important time on a healthy mental approach to the significant demands in the new world of virtual auditions.
